The online collection and picture sale

The Woman with the Fan was executed during his early years in Paris. The theme was a relatively frequent one in his oeuvre, there being at least one other, slightly larger painting from this period featuring the same woman, possibly the artist's wife. Delimited by a thick black line, she takes up almost all the space in the painting, standing out against a vague background rendered in short, rapid strokes of the brush that create a sense of movement, and which contrast with the modelling and volume of the subject. With a flower in her hair and a black ribbon knotted at the neck, the young woman is wearing a striking embroidered shawl and holds an open fan in her right hand, evidence of Iturrino's fascination with the colours of feminine items of dress and accessories.
