- This relation between adversity and destitute, helpless figures, one of the constant features of Baroja's output at his time, appears again in Storm. In this Goya-like work, Baroja portrays a group of people struggling to advance along a road in the face of a violent storm. The rough weather and the perseverance of the group on the road puts us in mind, this being Baroja, of the defenceless groups whose work, or the fortunes of war, oblige them to keep moving. The mastery in the use of the scale of greys, and in the play of light that enhances the atmospheric effects, harks directly back to the techniques of the engraver. (Javier Novo)
